From Soldier to Truth-Seeker: The Awakening of Miko Peled

What would you do if everything you were taught to believe turned out to be incomplete — or even untrue?

For Miko Peled, that moment didn’t come from a book or a headline.
It came from lived experience.

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Miko grew up inside a deeply Zionist environment. His father was a respected Israeli general, and like many children in that system, Miko inherited a narrative that framed the land, the conflict, and the people in a very specific way. He accepted it without question — because it was all he knew.

But life has a way of confronting us with reality.

When Miko served in the Israeli Defense Forces, he began to see the occupation up close. Not as a political concept. Not as something discussed in debates.
But as something real — something human.

And once he truly understood what was happening, he made a decision that would change his life forever.

He chose to speak out.

In his conversation on The Immigrant Nation Podcast, Miko explains that the conflict is not fundamentally about religion — not Muslim versus Christian, not Jewish versus Arab. Instead, it is rooted in a political system that claims exclusive ownership of land and maintains control through force and domination

A system many experience as deeply oppressive.

This realization pushed Miko from being part of the system… to becoming one of its strongest critics.

He now advocates for freedom, equality, and a democratic state where all people have equal rights — regardless of background.

When asked what he hopes to be remembered for, his answer was simple but powerful:

For playing even a small part in advocating for the freedom of Palestinians.

The Bigger Picture

Miko doesn’t just focus on one region or one struggle.

He studies patterns.

He points out how capitalism, militarization, and political power often work together to keep people in cycles of struggle and inequality — not just in Palestine, but across the world.

That’s why he believes real change doesn’t come from isolated acts of resistance.

It comes from solidarity.

Across borders.
Across communities.
Across movements.

Because no one dismantles injustice alone.

To continue his activism independently, Miko launched a Patreon in 2021 — offering interviews, podcasts, and deeper insights into Palestinian experiences, while advocating for an equal-rights state.

He also shares his work through books, YouTube, and Instagram — using every platform available to challenge dominant narratives and amplify voices often ignored.

And perhaps one of his most powerful messages echoes through history:

Liberation is not new.

We’ve seen it in the U.S. civil rights movement.
We’ve seen it in the fight against apartheid in South Africa.

Every major transformation required courage, persistence, and collective pressure

If truth makes us uncomfortable…
Is that where growth begins?

And if someone raised inside a powerful system can question everything they were taught —
what might we discover if we did the same?

Miko Peled’s journey is not just about politics.
It’s about awakening.
It’s about humanity.
It’s about choosing justice, even when it costs comfort.

For immigrants, for dreamers, for anyone who has ever had to unlearn one world to build another — his story reminds us:

Change starts with courage.
